Traditionally, the insurance industry is based on a strong project organization. Mostly centralized, usually as a team of project managers with a Head of PMO at the top. The PMO manager is responsible for strategic portfolio management, planning, prioritization, and synchronization with the organization's strategy. The strong position of a PMO results from the key role of information systems in insurance. Deployment of new products usually requires changes in the insurer's basic applications, which are implemented in project mode. The existing projects are of different natures and scales.
